SELFIE ISOLATION

Selfie Isolation explores my emotions, identity and mental health through self portraits and still lives taken during long periods of self isolation that has lasted 9 months in total. I've always worked in self portraiture as part of discovering my identity as a non binary person. Thanks to this project I keep exploring my identity and working in self acceptance and healing. During these months my physical world was reduced significantly and I realised how my room was one of the few safe places where I could exist without social masks. I took most of the photos in my room, the curtains and windows were transformed into my studio space, occasionally expanded to the garden and other areas in the house. Ultimately, this project is about identity, gender, mental health and how these topics shaped me and my closest surroundings during the pandemic in 2020.
