CARMEN-CARMELITA-DIEGO

Carmen-Carmelita-Diego explores the connection and disconnection with my mother's family. It mixes together short stories about my family with archive pictures to talk about love, the Spanish Civil War and identity.

The Civil War started during the II Republic when the fascists led a coup d'etat in 1936 that finished in 1939 with the victory of the far right wing. After the war ended, Spain was under Franco's dictatorship until he died in 1975.

I grew up in a family where only one of my grandparents was republican, this means my family environment is mostly conservative. This believes clashes with me, my identity as a trans and bi person, and with my political views.
